Ham & Yam Festival to Host Friday and Saturday Night Concerts
Smithfield,
NC – January 2012 / Hospitality 1ST / Get ready to rock southern style
at the 2012 Ham & Yam Festival!
The Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation presents legendary Southern
Rock band, Molly Hatchet live in concert Friday, May 4 at the Stevens Sausage
Pavilion at the Neuse River Amphitheatre during the 2012 Ham & Yam
Festival. The Festival Committee is working with Nashville agents to book
a country act for the Saturday, May 5 show.
In
its 28th year, the Ham & Yam Festival will see some changes that are
likely to benefit everyone involved. Free concerts will be held at 8:30
p.m. on Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5. Craft, commercial, and informational
vendors will take to the streets on Saturday, May 5, along with entertainment
on two stages, and fun activities for the entire family.
“The
Downtown Smithfield Development Corporation and the Ham & Yam Festival
is always working to make sure the festival stays fresh and innovative
for attendees,” states Chris Johnson, Executive Director of the Downtown
Smithfield Development Corporation. “As our community and downtown has
grown, trying to host a Sunday afternoon event has presented some logistical
issues. We decided to put the effort from Sunday’s events into a Friday
night concert. What better way to make this change than to open the festival
with one of the most popular Southern Rock bands ever.”
Molly
Hatchet formed in Jacksonville, FL in 1975 and recorded and released their
self-titled debut album in 1978. They have released eleven additional studio
albums since then, as well as numerous live albums and compilations. A
new album, Justice, was released in 2011.

According
to the band, “Justice is marked by hot Southern rock that could hardly
be more powerful and diverse.” However, the show is sure to include Molly
Hatchet classics “Whiskey Man,” “Bounty Hunter,” “Fall of the Peacemakers,”
“Beatin’ the Odds,” “Dreams I’ll Never See,” “Flirtin’ with Disaster” and
more. This is an excellent opportunity to see the Sons of the South play
their special blend of boogie, blues and hard rock!
“With
the generous corporate sponsorship provided by Stevens Sausage, we are
absolutely elated to have signed Molly Hatchet to perform at the 2012 festival,”
continues Johnson. “With the free Molly Hatchet concert, the festival promises
to be one of the largest attended events in Johnston County history, so
come early.”
The
Ham & Yam Festival is organized by the non-profit, Downtown
